Since we've had children, the longest road trip we've taken with them was to Birmingham when we had to evacuate for Ivan ('04) and Katrina ('05). This summer we planned a TWO-week vacation involving 5 stops, driving almost 3000 miles in
"Rocket" (as named by the boys after patting with
Little Einsteins). Packing a van for a long trip is much more fun and spontaneous than a small four-door sedan. A small addition of a borrowed DVD player with two screens has made this part of the trip definitely bearable. And since we will be sleeping in 5 different places, some little boy-size sleeping bags are part of our gear to help Sam and Zach have some consistency amidst so many beds. On the first night, we put the boys on opposite sides of the room to sleep, but Zach just couldn't stay away from his brother. After at least an hour of crazy antics, here's how we found them.

Our longest day on the road was the first ...New Orleans to Johnson City, Tennessee. Having been in the Nelsons' home in 2003, it was fun to return with little boys in tow. It was a pleasure to spend a relaxing day with them as families, complete with a trip to the park, some yummy Tennessee bbq, and even a trip to Chuck E. Cheese. There's simply nothing like lifetime, solid friends who share so many of the same passions in life and ministry. Being with them was the best way to begin to unwind and really relax.
that is awesome how they ended up next to each other. How funny. So where are you guys headed? Is Tennessee the final stop?
ReplyDeleteOh, no ... there's more to come. We're actually home now but I'm backposting entries. :)
ReplyDeleteHey I am glad you had a fun time! Tuck has been asking about ya'll. He is not used to being the one left in New Orleans! We are at the beach now, but will be heading home Wednesday. Hopefully we can see you towards the end of the week...
