We were able to sleep in our own bed last night. Dr. Sargent wanted me to be monitored until 9pm, so we finally reached home at about 10:15pm. It was great to come home to Mimie (who'd been with the boys while we were gone) and Aunt Christina (who stayed last night and is here today). Meals will be provided over the next several days by church friends. Since the physical discomfort is minimal, it would be easy to jump back into life and get lost in its details.
In comparison to my previous hospital stays and deliveries, it was one that was completely surreal and I still feel somewhat emotionally numb. We were blessed to have a compassionate nurse who stayed with us all day and no complications in the actual process. God even allowed the nurse to be in the room when the baby came with little warning. One of the most unexpected blessings was to have wireless Wi-Fi and be able to feel the support and accessibility of our family and friends, but not have to feel the drain of their actual presence. It seemed so strange to be wheeled out of the hospital without a baby in my arms and in the dark of night ... appropriate and surreal all at the same time.
We have gained so much inner strength from your emails and comments of love, support and encouragement. For those of you far away, please know that we are being cared for by those that are close to us -- but we eagerly drink your words of longing to do more. Thank you.
I am a friend of the Vines family and want you to know that you and your family have been in my prayers ever since Jennifer told me about you. I am so sorry about your loss. I lost a baby at 18 weeks and had to go through the labor that you have described. It is amazing how God covers you with his love when you are feeling so desperate for that baby in your arms. The numbness does go away and the tears come and go and then come back again but the Lord is your comfort and shield and your EVER PRESENT help! It is a joy for me to read your blog and watch your faith in action. Please know there are prayers being lifted for you and your husband that you don't even know about. In Christ's Love, Ronda Chandler
ReplyDeleteCrystal- just wanted you to know that you have constantly been in my thoughts and prayers-and hate the fact that I'm so far away and not able to physically help you. If you feel the need in the weeks to come to get out of the city you know where you will always have a place to rest your head. Praying for the peace and comfort that only our Lord can give for you and Doug. Love you so much, Julie
