Special gift

Since Katrina, I've joined our local freecycle group, which allows you to post items you want to give away to other people in the area you live, then they can respond to the offer. One of the things I've been waiting to be offered .... was posted this past week. Doug happened to be at the computer when the email came to our inbox. He responded with an email within 3 minutes of the offer. The phone rang minutes later to arrange for our pickup -- the next night! The item ... a wooden bunkbed set with mattresses! Hooray -- mission accomplished! What an incredible blessing.

My theory has been that Sam needed a bigger bed (he's been in a toddler bed) since he loves our bed so much. One time when I asked him why he liked our bed, he replied, "It's so big!" It seemed logical to get bunkbeds because of the size of their room.

As we were putting it together in the boys' room, he kept bouncing on it and exclaiming, "I like my bed! I like my bed!" Even though it was 7:30 (bedtime is 8pm) when we finished the assembly and dinner, all four of us went to Walmart to pick out sheets and a comforter! It was a big day for Sam! Of course, when we asked him what he wanted, he said, "basketball," so hence the sports-themed bedding. We even found a basketball and soccerball to use as chain pulls for their ceiling fan/light AND a ball night-light that Sam can turn on and off that's plugged in right by his bed. How cool is that for a two-year-old?

Here's some pics from this morning's play ... Doug was taking a pretend nap with Sam in his bed. Not to be left out, Zach gets in on the action a little bit too.

  3. When my oldest (now 15) moved from her crib we got her a toddler bed. She was so excited. She wasn't talking much yet, but she drug everyone who came to visit into her room to see her "big bed." She was SO excited. Thanks for the memory.
