Christmas lights

We spent a night as a family driving around looking at some lights around the city. One of our stops was at the late Al Copeland's house (yes, the same one as the restaurant). It was my first time visiting there, but we learned that he intentionally decided to bring holiday spirit to New Orleans by decorating wildly for Christmas. He was known to pass out candy canes to the kids who came by to visit during the holiday season. Since he passed away earlier this year, his family chose to decorate the house in his memory. Next year, the decorations will be part of a Christmas display at Lafreniere Park. It felt a little historic to be a part of this New Orleans tradition before it ended.

  1. We too made a point of visiting Copeland's house this one last time, just a couple of days ago. It was part of our family's annual Christmas tradition for many years. I'm glad they did one last year at the house on Folse, but it was only a fraction of what it used to be in the 80's and 90's, before the Grinch neighbors ruined everything.

  2. It sounds like I've been missing some of the history there ... Grinch neighbors?
